Hi, I'm Monica

Educator, Director, Mother...
Myeloma Survivor
I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (MM) in 2011 after a routine medical examination, and my life was never the same....
A stem cell transplant in Tampa, Florida in 2012 ushered years of roller-coaster rides as I navigated living with the disease. I retired from the UWI in 2018 but had continued my work with Jamaica Multiple Myeloma Support Group that I had founded with my husband/care partner, Godfrey Taylor, in 2013.
I have a PhD in Linguistics and have spent all of my working life as an educator.

My June Plum Journey uses the metaphor of the June Plum (Golden Apple) to weave the narrative of Monica's journey with multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells.

Like the June plum, some of the story is harsh and prickly; but some of it is also sweet and inspiring all sustained by Monica's faith.
