JAMAICA MULTIPLE MYELOMA SUPPORT GROUP (JMMSG)

JMMSG is a registered charity registered with the Companies Office of Jamaica in June of 2017 although the group has been  in existence since March of 2013.

The main aim of JMMSG is to provide support for persons living with or touched by Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells in the blood. The group also provides public information and builds awareness through special activities during March each year, which is  Myeloma Awareness/Action Month. During this month we host activities and events that build awareness and share useful information about the disease for professionals, caregivers and Myeloma patients. Our signature event is a medical Symposium that we host every two years. The next symposium is on track for March of 2025. Sponsors for previous symposia have included The National Health Fund and the Ministry of Health and Wellness, as well as corporate support from local businesses, such as, CariMed Foundation, Recharged Distributors, Mayberry Investments,  Dr Anna-Kay Taylor Christmas, and EduCom Cooperative.

Membership in the Group is open to anyone touched by Myeloma. A nominal fee of  J$100/annum,  is charged for membership. The Group is supported by funds from membership dues and contributions, as well as contributions from donors and sponsors. We provide emotional and informational support via monthly meetings , now held online on first Saturdays at 2pm. Subject to availability of funds, some financial support for medication is given to anyone in the group or brought to the attention of the group. Such applications are handled by the Management Committee using guidelines approved by a General Meeting. All the officers of the JMMSG are volunteers. Officers are elected at the Annual General Meeting.

JMMSG is affiliated with the International Myeloma Foundation that provides a wealth of information on Myeloma diagnosis and management.
